In April I was told by s senior White House staffer that the applications and resumes in the database of GreatAgain.gov were “accidentally deleted.” For those who don’t recognize greatagain.gov, it’s a website that uploaded onto the internet after President Trump won the election and it was a call to arms
Here’s the story. Shortly after the 2016 presidential election and while we were all still dizzy in the euphoria of the takedown of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic machine with the election of Donald J. Trump, a website appeared called www.GreatAgain.gov. How you can serve America”
Logical next step I thought, why wouldn’t the president, who won under the most interesting conditions, want anything but to choose from the most loyal, America first, trump supporting loyalists? Highly solicited were those with special expertise in policy, healthcare, education, finance, and law.
We were on to victory, that was sure. And here he was, true to his word and looking to fill his new administration from top to bottom with those of us who have spent countless days and nights canvassing, making speeches, feeling envelopes, attending meetings in rallies all to move this unique man into the highest office in the land. In fact the advertisement on the site included numerous statements to underscore that promise:
“President Elect Trump has promised to change Washington, DC and that will start with identifying and recruiting the finest men and women from across the country to serve in his Administration. Any individual who wishes to serve the Administration should utilize this online application in order to participate.”
I was thrilled to click on the site and complete the application which included a number of sections with questions asking for reasons why one would be interested in serving, and inquiring as to the applicant’s affinity for the President’s agenda.
Two months later I found myself in a discussion with a senior White House staff member who was explaining how they were struggling to get basic work done with the few staff members in place. I replied that that was odd since thousands of people across the nation had sent in their resumes to greatagain.gov. Surely there were plenty of applicants to choose from and they would likely all be incredibly invested in the President’s agenda and his success.
The staffer turned to me with an eye roll and a dismissive chuckle saying “oh that database was accudentally lost…some computer glitch.”
I knew of two Trump campaign staffers who had been hired into the Admin, one at State and the other in a GSO. Both were let go by March. Then the Trump loyalists started to leave, get run out, or “resign”
And replaced with Democrats, progressives, Obama holdovers, and neoCon Generals who all now run this White House.
No wonder I never heard back.
